About EMF
What is EMF Medical Aid Society?
EMF Medical Aid Society is one of Zimbabwe's longest-standing medical aid providers, established in 1948. Originally formed through a collective bargaining agreement in the Engineering industry, EMF has grown to serve members from all walks of life across all major cities in Zimbabwe. EMF is registered with the Ministry of Health and Child Care in compliance with the Medical Services Act [Chapter 15:13].
How long has EMF been operating?
EMF has been providing quality healthcare solutions for over 77 years, since its founding in 1948. What started as healthcare cover for skilled workers in the Engineering Sector has grown into a comprehensive medical aid society serving individuals, families, SMEs, and corporates nationwide.
What is EMF Health?
EMF Health is our healthcare provider arm, operating integrated primary care clinics and pharmacies in Harare and Bulawayo. These facilities serve EMF members and the general public, offering consultations, diagnostic tests, pharmacy services, chronic disease management, and wellness programmes.

What medical aid schemes does EMF offer?
Individual Schemes: Diamond Plus, Diamond, Platinum, Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Family plans
Corporate Schemes: Tailored packages for businesses of all sizes
Each scheme offers different levels of coverage including hospitalisation, prescribed medication, dental, optical, specialist consultations, and more.
What is the Diamond Plus Plan?
The Diamond Plus Plan is our premium scheme offering the most comprehensive coverage: US$35,000 annual limit per person, US$14,000 hospitalisation limit, US$2,500 prescribed medication, US$1,860 dental cover, US$300 optical, specialist and radiology cover, psychiatric and rehabilitative services, wellness programmes, private ambulance services, funeral cash benefit, and international/regional treatment.
What is the most affordable scheme?
The Bronze Plan is our most affordable entry-level scheme, ideal for students and first-time members. It offers a US$5,740 annual limit per person, US$2,320 hospitalisation limit, dental, optical, prescribed medication, chronic drug cover, specialist consultations, and funeral cash benefit.
Do all schemes include maternity cover?
Yes. All EMF schemes — from Bronze to Diamond Plus — include GP consultations, antenatal care, post-natal care, and pregnancy scans as standard benefits.
Do EMF schemes include funeral cover?
Yes. All EMF schemes include a Funeral Cash Benefit of US$500 for adults and US$200 for children.
Is dental and optical cover included?
Yes. All EMF schemes include both dental and optical cover, with limits varying by plan. For example, Diamond Plus offers US$1,860 dental and US$300 optical, while Bronze offers US$350 dental and US$150 optical.

How do I join EMF Medical Aid?
You can join EMF by completing the online membership application form on our website at
emfmedicalaid.com/membership-application, or by downloading the PDF application form from our Member Resources page. You can also visit any of our offices for assistance.
How long does it take to join EMF?
Membership approval is usually completed within 48 hours once all required documents are received.
Can I add my family to my plan?
Yes. EMF schemes are designed to cover you and your dependants. You can add your spouse and children to your plan. The Family plan is specifically designed for families looking for affordable, comprehensive cover.
Can corporates and SMEs join EMF?
Absolutely. EMF offers tailored corporate schemes designed for businesses of every size. Corporate membership includes hospitalisation, dental, optical, wellness programmes, and real-time claims processing. Contact our Business Development team for a customised corporate quote.
Do you have waiting periods?
Waiting periods may apply depending on the scheme and type of membership. Please contact our offices or visit our website for specific details regarding waiting periods for your chosen plan.

Where can I access healthcare services?
EMF members can access healthcare through our wide network of service providers across Zimbabwe, including Helpstars Medical & Dental Centre (Harare & Bulawayo) and Sunrise Pharmacies (Harare & Bulawayo). EMF members enjoy priority appointments, reduced consultation fees, and direct medical aid billing at partner facilities.
How do I submit a claim?
At most EMF partner facilities, claims are processed directly through our billing system — no paperwork needed. For out-of-network claims, you can submit your claim documentation to our offices or email clientservices@emfmedicalaid.com for assistance.
What benefits do EMF members get at Helpstars?
EMF members at Helpstars enjoy priority appointments, reduced consultation fees, and direct medical aid billing and claims processing. Services include medical consultations, dental care, laboratory testing, chronic disease management, emergency response, and wellness programmes.
What discounts do EMF members get at Sunrise Pharmacies?
EMF members at Sunrise Pharmacies enjoy up to 15% discount on selected products, priority dispensing for EMF prescriptions, and medication counselling and chronic management support.
